   Preliminaries

WomPom wants to make one thing clear, up front.

You DO NOT need a guided tour, you should NOT buy a package tour from a Tour Operator outside of ViętNam
- unless you have too much money or unable to speak English, French or Vietnamese.

In fact, many of the Tour Operators simply buy an in-country tour, slap the cost of the air fare on to it and together with a large profit and that's it. So why pay all the big money, simply search for the best air fares and the rest will fall in to place - with large savings!

This web page is intended to give you sufficient information so that you can decide upon your itinerary, book your initial hotel accommodation, pre-arrange the travel for the first few days after arrival.

Any recommendations made are based on the reports we receive; if WomPom recommends a travel product it based on the experience of WomPom staff and is labelled as such. Advertisements are clearly identified, and paid for.

   Direction of travel

For first time visitors to ViętNam it is best that you enter the country through HaNoi and then explore the north, around Ha Noi, before  heading south and exiting through Ho Chi Minh City/SaiGon.

The reasons for this are:
 (1) there are three distinct areas to visit in the North – Ha Noi,
      Ha Long Bay and Sa Pa. A less busy destination is Mai
      Chau, although visitors will be rewarded with natural
      vistas and the ethnic groups or hill tribes.;
 (2) Time between tours tour Sa Pa and Ha Long Bay can be
      used to explore Ha Noi.
 (2) using in-country tours for Ha Long Bay and Sa Pa will
      gain you experience of travelling in ViętNam and will
      acclimatise you for your journey to the south of ViętNam.
