Description:
Bac Kan is a mountainous province, bordered by Cao Bang Province
on the north, Thai Nguyen on the south, Lang Son to the east, and Tuyen Quang to the west.
 
It is located on the Ha Noi - Cao Bang Inter-provincial Highway No 3.

 

Bac Kan has a diversified and complicated topography with many rivers and springs. The Ba Be Lake (1) is one of the most beautiful spots in ViętNam - with great potential for tourism.

  

The provinces natural resources are abundant and diversified, including to mining, processing and tourism.

 

Economy:
Economic potentialities: forestry, coal resources mainly in Ngan Son.

 

Notable sights:
There are many historical vestiges and revolutionary relics.

An Toan Khu (2), meaning 'safe zone' which was built during the American War against the (1965-1972) and consists of a network of underground tunnels with strong defense works able to withstand bombs and bullets.

 

Transport:
Bac Kan is 166 kilometres from Ha Noi, from Ba Be some 240 kilometres.
 
Most Travellers reach Ba Be (1) Lakes from Ha Noi by rented vehicle (the journey is 8 hours ).
 
Some Ha Noi tour operators offer tours to Ba Be Lakes (about USD$60/person for 3 days/2 night trips).
