Climbing Mount Fan Si Pan/PhanXiPang Many visitors inquire about climbing VietNam's highest peak, Mount Fan Si Pan, at Sa Pa.
The true name is PhanXiPang. This climb is
not a country stroll and requires healthy, physically exercised participants. A police permit is required
and one condition of this permit is that climbers retain the services of guides and porters. If
climbers are advised against the climb due to prevailing conditions - pay heed to these warnings as key parts of the
climb can become slippery. See links at the bottom of the page.

Itinerary Day 1: Depart Sa Pa early, between 07.30H-08.00H, passing the H’mong village of
Cat Cat. Climb to the rainforest above. Porters usually pitch a camp approximately 2,000-metres.
Warm clothing is necessary, toilet facilities are basic.
Day 2: A slow climb to a
ridge at 2,900-metres which is a scenic viewpoint with magnificent views of the long Sa Pa valley and the Tram
Ton mountain range beyond. Descend to the base camp, at approximately 2,400-metres.
Day 3: This is generally Summit Day, there are a few steep stretches on the way, but nothing
insurmountable without due care and assistance. Participants will have reach the summit of Mount FanSiPan,
at 3,143-metres, by midday. On clear days participants will be rewarded with remarkable views north to
China, west to Laos and south over VietNam - parts of the Truong Son range. Return to, and overnight at, base camp.
Day
4: Strike base camp and return to Sa Pa, arriving in time for a evening meal, a hot shower!
Note: Equipment available in Sa Pa is rudimentary so participants should have some suitable clothing
and footwear. This is a climb, not a trek or a stroll. Furthermore
there is some danger attendant in this climb - there have been deaths on previous climbs
